Someone asked me the other day if I feel pressured to entertain my kids while they’re on summer break and the answer was N-O.
And I’ll tell you why.
This summer, I’m taking a break, too.
That’s right. I’m taking a break.
Well, sort of. I mean, they are home all day now.
But, really. I’m going to enjoy summer break and that means not doing any school projects or field trip or fundraising.
In fact, we don’t have any plans this summer. Not a trip, not a vacation, not a play date.
We’re operating on a summer break schedule which equals no schedule. We’re winging it.
During the school year, we’re on a schedule. We have to be at school by 8:00 A.M., then I have a moms group every Friday, church on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings; we have soccer practice and soccer games; PTO meetings and the list goes on and on.
But for summer break, we’re doing none of the things.
Being out of school means sleeping in an hour later than usual; staying up a little later.
It means playing outside until dark and staying in pajamas until noon (am I talking about me or them? I’ll never tell!).
It means no schedule; lax routine and spontaneity.
It’s summer break for mom, too.
And I’m not here for entertaining. 😉
