A few weeks ago, my friend, Brittany (you know her as “the one“) and I took off for a girls trip in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and, not only were we so fortunate to have amazing weather that weekend, but we also had some great experiences taking off our mom hats, and replacing them with tourists/off duty mom hats.
Top 5 Highlights of our Milwaukee Trip:
- Visiting The Milwaukee Art Museum.
- Listening to Buffalo Gospel at Anodyne Coffee Shop.
- Eating on the rooftop of Cafe Benelux.
- Visiting the Milwaukee Public Market and enjoying lunch there outside.
- Our morning coffee at the beautiful Boxed & Burlap (outside of Milwaukee in Delavan).
The Milwaukee Public Market:
We started off Saturday morning with a stroll through the Milwaukee Public Market (Spoiler alert: There was a lot of cheese). The public market had a TON of great stuff, like souvenirs, t-shirts, wine, cheese, food, coffee, chocolates, meat, olive oils, spices and a bakery! After walking around for a bit, we ended up grabbing lunch from The Green Kitchen and eating outside (again, 75 degree weather!) and thoroughly enjoyed some uninterrupted people watching. The MPM is a must if you find yourself visiting Milwaukee!
The Milwaukee Art Museum:
I’ll be reallll honest here. I wasn’t all that excited about this part of our trip. I’m not sure why, but I figured this would be the least exciting venture in Milwaukee, and it ended up being one of the best parts (second to watching Buffalo Gospel). You don’t have to be an art enthusiast to appreciate all that the Milwaukee Art Museum has to offer- from the beautiful building itself, to the amazing lake views and they’ve even incorporated some awesome features for kids- because, duh, taking kids to an art museum sounds like it would be a nightmare! But, not at MAM. Not only do they have a kids center, with art projects for kids (hello, rainy days!), but they also have kid-friendly exhibits that encourage kids to touch (gasp!) and interact with some of the pieces.
Not only is the building gorgeous, but with their special lighting, they are able to completely transform the space for weddings and events. Just look at this picture from wedding-spot.com:
It’s seriously such a gorgeous building, and no doubt, an art piece in itself. They also switch out exhibits, so you can come back time and time again to see something new!
One of my favorite exhibits while we were there was the etching exhibit, which had a number of different works of art completed via etching. The piece below was etched in a circular motion (look closely at his nose), which is simply amazing.
Before heading to the show Saturday night, we ate dinner (actually, just a bunch of appetizers), on the rooftop of Cafe Benelux, and it was delish! The service was great and the food was tasty! Plus, you just can’t beat sitting on a rooftop in 75 degree weather, drinking adult beverages with your mom friends. The location is perfect (third ward) and you can walk to a ton of great stores from the Cafe.
Anodyne Coffee Shop:
We ended Saturday night at Anodyne Coffee Shop to listen to one of my favorite bands, Buffalo Gospel’s show, and neither venue or performance disappointed! The coffee was delish and the shop itself was spacious and homey. It was the perfect place to host a show! You can read more about my thoughts on Buffalo Gospel here.
Boxed & Burlap:
Before catching our flight Sunday morning, we traveled to Delavan, just an hour or so outside of Milwaukee, to the beautiful Boxed & Burlap coffee shop. Not only is it a coffee shop, but they also have a greenhouse and a huge barn, perfect for weddings and events.
Kunes Country Ford Lincoln:
I have to give a huge shout out to Kunes Country Ford Lincoln for loaning us this sweet ride! We drove a 2017 Ford Edge all weekend, and it is a great “mom car” for those of us who are not quite ready to crossover into the minivan life (although, I’ve heard that it is liberating). This edge has a ton of features including: Remote Start, Backup Camera, Sirius XM RADIO, AWD, 6 Speakers, Panic alarm, Power driver seat, Power steering, Power windows, and Speed control. You can find the one that we drove around by clicking here.
I also have to give a special thanks to Visit Milwaukee who gave us some great recommendations on places to eat and shop! We had a great time in Milwaukee and we will DEFINITELY be back! Our next trip to Milwaukee will be with kids in tow, and we’ll be highlighting some of the best kids spots in town!
